origjnal early 20th century antique american medical textured cased glass dental lamp shade likely fabricated by or for h.g. mcfaddin & co., new york city, ny. the richly colored circular-shaped dome shade with brilliant green exterior and reflective whtite interior is free from cracks or breaks. "bellova" and "emeralite" type lamps were designed and fabricated by harrison d. mcfaddin & co., beginning in 1909. on may 11, 1909 mcfaddin's submitted patent application for "a new, original and ornamental design for lamp shades" was approved. for the next 50 years, emeralite became a common fixture in homes and offices alike. the lamp shades are distinct in that they exhibit no sharp corners. in addition, emeralite shades were made using the "cased glass" technique, whereby the opalescent white glass was treated with a thin layer of green on the exterior side of the shade. the great majority, if not all glass shades were fabricated in rapotin, moravia (czech republic) in the factory of j. schreiber & neffen.
