rare c. 1920's original reinforced steam ship deck air vent or funnel with a brushed metal finish sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the curved, telescopic shape is constructed by multiple concentric strips of metal riveted to one another. the large air vent opening contains a rolled metal rim. the exterior is bare or brushed metal with an old red painted hollow interior. ship funnels and air vents functioned to expel boiler steam, smoke, or engine exhaust. funnels were distinctive features forming the silhouette of a vessel.
