exceptinoal c. 1930's american oliver p. morton school (demolshed 1991) exterior terra cotta pier capital designed by geroge grant elmslie. the ornamental terra cotta three-sided capital was executed by the midland terra cotta company, chicago, ills. the yellowish beige slip is largely intact with only minor chips evident. the hallowed webbing has been cut down to reduce weight and make more displayable against the wall. the oliver p. morton school was completed in 1936-7 with william s. hutton as architect and george grant elmslie as designer. the terra cotta ornament would be elmslie's last commission before his death in 1952. two identical pier capitals are available. priced individually.
