very unique and hard to find all original and largely intact 19th century antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace mantel firebox surround with removable summer cover and fender. the oversized assemblage contains a uniform black enameled finish with surface wear evident. the unique mobile fender with original casters mounted along the underside contains a distinctive and nicely aged yellow brass rail guard with two of the tubular components containing a twist or rope motif. the steeple and ball finial ornament are used to support the rods. the highly ornamented summer cover with intricate filigree is original and free from damage. the surround contains a number of design motifs typical of the victorian era. great overall condition. possibly fabricated by or for the chattanooga implement & mfg. co., chattanooga, tenn. measures 32 x 6 x 32 1/2 inches, opening measures 23 x 21 inches
