original and largely intact c. 1892-1896 children's sidewalk toy bicycle display model manufactured by the iroquois cycle works, chicago, il. the short-lived iroquois cycle works manufactured bicycles from 1892-1896. the mead cycle company purchased their entire inventory in 1896. according to a mead cycle co. advertisement, "iroquois cycle works failed because their wheels were too expensively built." the intact stamped brass head badge reads iroquois cycle works, chicago, il. and displays a native american in profile. the markings on the chain guard read "new departure - model d." original baked black enameled finish, with sporadic loss of paint and/or surface rust evident. approximately 31" high x 46" in length.
