original late 19th century antique american rococo style ornamental cast brass metal "belfort" pattern entrance door backplate or escutcheon. retains the original swinging keyhole cover concealing the opening for the "master" key. the oversized backplate was manufactured by the reading hardware co., reading, pa. maker markings light embossed on the backside of the plate. nicely aged surface patina. salvaged from a chicago graystone residence built around 1898. measure approximately 12 x 3 inches.
