single original 19th century american high victorian residential art glass windows executed in 1883 by the stained glass firm of mcculley & miles co., chicago, il. the finely crafted art glass windows are profusely ornamented with an assortment of vibrantly colored faceted jewels throughout. the intricately designed abstract floral design motifs are comprised primarily of cathedral roll glass with some panels containing a rippled texture. the two windows were salvaged from a la salle street mansion (extant) undergoing interior renovations. the residence was built in 1883 for a prominent chicago doctor who used the building as a place of residence in addition to having offices for his practice. the stained glass firm of mccully & miles (composed of john mccully and holland f. miles) was established in 1859, by e. k. & company, and was one of the first houses in the city to engage in the stained glass trade. from 1874 to 1879, the place of business was located at 85 jackson street; they then moved to the corner of fifth avenue and adams street where they did business until 1882. their last known address after 1882 was 14 monroe street. the firm dealt in all kinds of stained glass for residential and commercial projects alike. they supplied the stained glass for many of the prominent churches in this city; also for the state house at st. paul, minn., and for the st. paul's episcopal church, at milwaukee. among the many private residences of chicago, for which they have furnished glass, may be mentioned those of m.-d. wells, the late general anson stager, b. p. moulton, and several others. the windows are largely intact, with some hairline cracks evident. no replaced and/or missing jewels. the original wood sash frames are structurally sound and stable. measure 20 x 37 inches.
