visit the digital chicago stock exchange website

the 2009-2010 Emerging Media Innovation Grant team Michele Chiuini (architecture) and John Fillwalk (IDIA) launched the Digital Chicago Stock Exchange website, the result of their work to virtually reconstruct portions of the 1894 Chicago Stock Exchange building, designed by the famous duo Adler and Sullivan. The stock exchange was demolished in 1972, but a number of structural elements were salvaged and now reside in galleries and museums across the country. The team used some of the latest in digital technology to catalog surviving pieces and virtually recreate the assembly of eighteen terra cotta pieces on a steel structural frame, a significant advance in architectural technology at the turn of the 20th century.

The site features a digital model and animation of these pieces, as well as historical information about the building, its well-known designers, and its significance in the world of architecture. An overview of the Digital Chicago Stock Exchange project was featured in the December 2009 EMI Update.
