documenting the odin j. oyen firm's architectural renderings is well underway

within an hour after arriving home from my buying trip in wisconsin late in the evening, i decided to push ahead and not only completely unload the haul, but proceeded to fire up the studio strobes and begin shooting selected renderings i really felt deserved immediate attention.

i promised myself in the beginning that once i successfully acquired the odin j. oyen collection, that i would pace myself, especially since i'm in the homestretch of finally publishing the bldg. 51 catalog, along with writing an in-depth paper on the john kent russell house, designed to compliment the russell exhibition now that the demolition of the house has drawn to a close and any and all artifacts have been cataloged for display. clearly, that was not the case.

i must admit, at times i grow concerned that the workload i attempt to tackle is just too much to handle in the time frame i have set for myself. however, those concerns are rather fleeting as i quickly reverse gears and fall comfortably back into tackling the tasks i have set forth to accomplish with these projects - for better or for worse.

i've already launched the introductory post shortly after i began to edit the first of the images from the collection. finding it hard to take a step outside of this ongoing process, i felt overly inclined to post additional images from the collection to give the reader a better understanding of what lies ahead.

the following images represent the beginning phases of systematically documenting the large body of work created in the odin j. oyen studios around 1900 to 1920. i've included a few brilliantly colored matted watercolor architectural renderings of interiors designed by either the hand of odin j. oyen or axel edward soderburg, who joined the firm in 1903 and would overtime, become head designer of the firm and execute a great deal of the firm's mural installations for several notable commissions.

more to follow as i continue to research and photodocument this amazing collection.
