as part of our ongoing salvage efforts at a notable chicago foundry complex, we finally gained access to yet another building on the sprawling industrial campus; the building formerly served as a distribution center for standard oil of indiana.

there, we discovered several matching, unusually-shaped dirk saaf-designed white porcelain or vitreous enameled fixtures with original "stems" and ball-joint canopies. as of this writing, several have been posted to the urban remains website. 

in addition to the light fixtures, we came across several other odds and ends, pictured below in the image gallery. the cast aluminum richards and kelly "chicken wire" glass elevator door "portals" are especially interesting since the manufacturer began their 19^th century operations fabricating sidewalk vault lights and coal chute covers. 

speaking of "chicken wire" glass, we managed to secure several panes of glass (unframed) along with entire window units containing welded joint steel muntins. the majority of the panes and hinged windows were already removed in preparation for a film shoot to be used in the nbc television show "chicago fire." please contact us regarding quantity and configuration.

nearly all of the windows used to outfit this early 20th factory building were fabricated by voigtmann & company, chicago, il. similar windows by the same fabricator were recovered from a chicago paint factory constructed around 1905. several matching multi-pane windows salvaged from this factory are still available for purchase.

we plan on salvaging more artifacts and oddities from the standard oil (of indiana) building in the coming weeks. it will likely be demolished sometime in june. future posts will cover additional artifacts salvaged, along with photographic documentation of the building's demolition.
