very little remains of a. finkl & sons foundry as demolition draws to a close. the images below were taken a few days ago when i visited the site. even though our work there was completed weeks ago, i had been itching to return and photodocument what, if anything, remained standing of this former gargantuan industrial complex.
as expected, virtually every building clustered together on both sides of cortland avenue were wiped away, with only sporadic the iconic arches, piles of brick, and a partially demolished out-building left standing.
the single piece to make its way into the bld. 51 museum is a single-sided flush mount polished aluminum and enameled steel diamond-shaped building plaque containing the embossed letter "f" for finkl. the oversized plaque was removed from the administration building during the beginning phase of our salvage there.
