a selection of photographs from richard nickel and john vinci 1960's contact prints

contact sheet number one. the artifacts were salvaged from adler & sullivan's albert sullivan residence (1892).

the cast plaster escutcheon was salvaged by john vinci and/or robert furhoff from the samuel stern residence (1885). john later stripped numerous layers of paint that concealed sullivan's intricate design. the ceiling escutcheon resides with vinci to this day.

richard nickel, john vinci, and robert furhoff salvaged albert sullivan residence cast plaster cove molding panels before the house was demolished in 1970. the cove molding contains design elements used in adler & sullivan's transportation building erected in 1893 for the chicago world's fair.

the louis sullivan-designed leaded glass window with clear glass was rescued from the albert sullivan residence (1892) by richard nickel before it was demolished in 1970.
