a collection of ephemera and images from the 1956 louis sullivan architecture of free enterprise exhibit

excuse the half-assed brain dump... images and ephemera from "louis sullivan and the architecture of free enterprise" exhibit held at the art institute in 1956.

note the two adler and sullivan jewelers building (1881) columns flanking the entrance of the exhibit - they were found in the building's basement around the time of the show.
the installation was handled by architect daniel brenner.

the invite with siskind image of adler & sulivan's wainwright building was sent to william presto - architect of the krause music store (1922). he recruited his former employer louis sullivan to design the facade.

i need to find original images taken of the exhibit. the ones here, are scanned from a 1956 magazine that covered the show. not great, but they will have to suffice for the time being.

materials courtesy of the richard nickel archive, ryerson and burnham archives, art institute of chicago, tim samuelson, and eric j. nordstrom.
