several important rare architectural books, guides and catalogs added to bldg. 51 archive in january 2023

a sizeable collection of exceptionally rare 19th and early 20th century architectural books, catalogs, monographs and guidebooks was purchased for the bldg. 51 archive in late january, 2023. a few acquisition highlights that have been digitized at the time of this post are listed below.

original monograph of h.h. richardson’s austin hall, harvard law school, cambridge, mass., from the architectural library of william le baron jenney. contains 18 bw heliotype plates of the law school’s interior and exterior. published by boston-based james r. osgood and company, 1885.

catalogue to the sale of - frank, howard. of messrs. knight, frank & rutley. acting in conjuntion with john roy lancaster of messrs. horne & co (agents)
the crystal palace, sydenham. to be sold by auction on tuesday 28th day of november, 1911 at the estate room, 20, hanover square, london.

first edition of owen jones "grammar of ornament," published by day and son, 1856.

rand mcnally & co.'s bird's-eye views and guide to chicago indispensable to every visitor 1893.
