rare c. 1870's antique american ornamental cast iron figural doorknob believed to be inspired by or modeled after american cross founder clara barton. the banded edge doorknob features a deeply sunken center with female portrait in low-relief. a repeating abstract floral motif border surround the profile. the antique figural doorknob is attributed to the newman hardware company. refinished to maximize casting detail. clara barton was a pioneer american teacher, patent clerk, nurse, and humanitarian. she is best remembered for establishing the american red cross in washington, d.c. on may 21, 1881. measures approximately 2 1/8 inches in diameter. limited quantity available.
