highly sought after c. 1920's intact american vintage industrial compartmentalized bare metal highboy dresser. fabricated during the 1920's by the simmons manufacturing co., kenosha, wi. the very plain, yet elegant and utilitarian cabinet is comprised of reinforced folded and pressed "furniture" steel treated with a protective clear coat lacquer. the original knob drawer pulls are intact. the finely turned legs retain the original pressed steel swivel casters. simmons was known for their furniture and bedding, designed especially for "hospitals, hotels, tourist cabins and steamships." the highboy measures 47 x 32 x 19 inches. the middle drawer conceals a unique reinforced sheet metal pull-out or retractable desk with ink well.
