c. 1920's american gothic style ornamental cast bronze "unit lock" manufactured by the p. & f. corbin co., new britain, ct. the highly stylized and darkly patinated office door unit lock was salvaged from an office door located in the historic downtown chicago pittsfield building. the 38-story building is considered one of downtown chicago's most distinctive skyscraper designs. the building was designed by architects graham, anderson, probst and white, one of the nation's most distinguished architectural firms during the early 20th century. the exterior and interior has a blend of both gothic and art deco architectural styles. the highly ornate, gothic style doorknobs and large backplates make this unit lock both atheistically pleasing and functional. only a few of the c. 1927 locksets were found during floor by floor renovations and/or upgrades. measures approximately 13 3/4 x 4 1/2 inches.
