single iconic c. 1930's art deco machine age "z" bar stool with black upholstered cushioned seat. chromed tubular-steel frame remains sound and sturdy. features the hard to find welded-joint crossbar foot rest. singed troy sunshade in black stenciled lettering. during the great depression, troy-sunshade developed a new "chrome furniture" enterprise. designed by notable industrial designer gilbert rohde, who was a self taught furniture designer influenced by both the bauhaus and late french art deco. while rohde succeeded in his mission-insofar as he led herman miller to the forefront of mass-produced modern design-his accomplishments led, ironically, to under appreciation. he died suddenly and relatively young, and the dynamic design achievements of his successors at herman miller, such as charles and ray eames, george nelson, and isamu noguchi, effectively eclipsed rohde's reputation, and, more importantly, obscured his surprising foresight in the realm of modern design. seat height measures 24 inches.
