c. 1910-20 original and largely intact american ornamental cast iron flush mount elevator "signal for all cars" push button escutcheon or backplate possibly fabricated by or for the elevator supply & repair company, chicago, il. the rectangular-shaped backplate contains a single push button hole for "calling" an elevator cab. the "down" button hole contains a cast brass rosette - likely original, which suggests that this configuration was for "up" only. the cast iron has been refinished and treated with a clear coat lacquer. neoclassical border found along the edges. salvaged from a chicago commercial building long ago. measures 3 x 1/2 x 8 inches.
