early 20th century american industrial conical-shaped galvanized steel hanging "fire" sand bucket salvaged from a baltimore & ohio (b&o) railroad caboose. the simplistic fire suppression device was originally suspended from a hook in the ceiling of an old wooden caboose in the vicinity of a potbelly wood or coal stove. in the event of a fire, a trainman would use the fire bucket to contain the blaze. the bucket with original drop handle, is comprised of galvanized steel with an old naturally weathered paint finish. contains lightly embossed markings (i.e., "b&o rr") along the backside of the bucket. exact fabricator unknown.
