all original c. 1860's heavily ornamented american interior support column capital fragment salvaged from a pre-fire chicago french second empire commercial structure with limestone facade (now demolished). the three story dry goods building was one of the last remaining structures found within the old skid row district in the south loop. several capitals were discovered (largely intact) above chicken wire "flop house" living quarters on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the building. the iron capitals were comprised of eight components, making up four distinct sections bolted together with wrought iron strapping. very unique and highly stylized design. the fragment has been brushed down to bare metal and treated with a clear coat lacquer. the decorative iron fragment was likely fabricated by the gould bros. & dibbless ornamental iron mfgs., chicago, il. limited quantity of fragments only are in stock. very clean and displayable pre-fire chicago architectural artifact.
