set of two matching (twelve available) original early 20th century salvaged chicago bare bulb pendant light possibly fabricated by the benjamin mfg. co., chicago, ills. the sockets are comprised of both white porcelain and copper with nicely aged patina. the original rayon cloth cord has not been touched. the white glazed ceramic or porcelain ceiling canopies are in great shape. the fixtures were salvaged from the basement of the oscar heineman silk company factory during its demolition. construction of the oscar heineman silk company factory complex began in 1918. one of the four buildings has been converted into the silk factory lofts. the warehouse and administration office building is currently undergoing demolition. the silk factory complex was built using red face brick accentuated with ornamental bedford (indiana) limestone. the general contractor on record was r.c. wieboldt and the architectural firm was lockwood, greene, and company. urban remains obtained salvage rights shortly before the administration building faced demolition.a total of twelve matching fixtures are available. priced for the pair.
