original c. 1937 american depression era decorative cast bronze department of public works exterior bridge plaque fabricated by the lang stamp works, albany ny. the flush mount wpa plaque contains information pertaining to location and/or type of project. the year the building project commenced or was completed is prominently displayed at the bottom of the shield. the top portion features a highly detailed seal of the state of new york with a banner below containing the word or slogan "excelsior" (latin for ever upward). the figures between the eagle represent liberty and justice. the top corners contain some damage caused when the plaque was removed. nicely aged surface patina left mostly intact. the type of plaque was used throughout the state of new york on a number of public works projects. measures approximately 5 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches.
