hard to find original and intact late 19th century ornamental white porcelain or vitreous china apothecary or "druggist" cabinet drawer pull designed and fabricated by fay & schueler, st. louis, mo. the delicate sliding drawer pull features lightly embossed floral motifs accentuated and/or outlined in hand-applied god leaf. the prominent shadowed lettering is finished in baked black enamel. the "os. sepia." tincture or concoction (often written as a latin derivative) was ground up cuttle bone, which was used as tooth powder. the porcelain drawer pull was salvaged from a badly damaged apothecary cabinet. contains two opposed holes for mounting purposes. measures 4 1/4 x 2 1/4 x 1 inches.
