heavy duty repurposed antique american industrial original freestanding factory machine shop cast iron grinder base designed and fabricated by or for the e.l. essley machinery co., chicago, il. the remarkably heavy cast iron base contains a uniform brushed metal finish treated with a clear coat lacquer. as the local distributor of this machine (originally manufactured by the diamond machine co., providence, r.i.) k. l. essley and j. r. mcdonald, formerly of mcdowell. stocker company, chicago, organized the e. l. essley machinery company in 1906, with their main store at 67 west washington street and branch office at milwaukee in the majestic building. the company bought and sold new and second-hand machinery. the newly added top consists of recycled or old repurposed thick maple wood used as a butcher block. the stand or work table is in great overall condition. 18 x 15 1/4 x 30 1/2"
