original american 19th century majolica glazed ceramic portrait tile featuring a bust-length female figure in costume, surrounded by fanciful scroll work. the unique interior residential fireplace tile is richly colored with an allover crazed finish. fabricated by the hamilton tile works, founded in 1884 by adolph metzner. free from brick and mortar. lightly embossed manufacturer markings on the backside of the tile.
