well-built c. 1900's american vintage industrial oversized pine wood tool chest or box possibly fabricated by th american tool chest company, new york city, ny. the refinished chest was found tucked away in the basement of the old downtown chicago marshall field building boiler room. the industrial furniture piece contained old pipe fittings, wrenches and other tools used by the in-house building engineer. the hinged top box contains deeply recessed panels and grooved edges. a solid walnut wood panel is tightly affixed to the top of the chest. the spacious interior contains a removable tool tray. handles and hasps intact. measures 38 x 21 1/2 x 18 inches.
