all original and nicely aged early 20th century antique american industrial gymnasium exercise equipment in the form of two matching solid turned and tapered maple wood barbells designed and fabricated by prominent exercise equipment manufacturer fred medart mfg, co., st. louis, mo. the barbells were discovered in storage at the old chicago athletic association building's gymnasium (1893) during renovations. the barbells contained lightly incised rings throughout. great aged surface patina. priced for the pair. measure 12 x 4 inches.
