early 1930's original american art deco machine age interior orpheum theater wall mount illuminated "fire escape" sign salvaged from the orpheum theater prior to demolition in 1964. the electric theater exit door "can" sign is comprised of cast aluminum with perforated lettering backed by emerald green textured glass panels. the interior contains three bare bulb porcelain sockets (rewired). the sign was fabricated by the hollywood electric number co. hollywood, calif. excellent working condition. vaudeville magnate alexander pantages built the orpheum theater in 1924, with marcus priteca as official architect. responsible for the design and remodeling of over 200 pantages theaters, priteca became nationally recognized as an expert in modern, high-quality theater design. in 1929 the pantages theater switched to films and was re-named orpheum theatre with a 1,400 seating capacity. the orpheum was later demolished in 1964. measures 26 x 7 1/2 x 3 inches.
