single late 1940's or early 1950's original and largely intact american industrial molded plastic "sweetheart" soap baby doll head designed and fabricated by or for the manhattan soap company, new york city, ny. the flesh-tone enameled head was originally apart of a store display window advertising mechanical device which included a full body and cradle or basket. the electromechanical "sweetheart" soap baby displays were distributed in large green painted wood crates with bold white lettering. all of our crates sold long ago. the head contains a solid steel rod that protrudes from the neck, which was used in conjunction with the mechanical body. the manhattan soap company was a business founded in 1890 and was located at 426 west 38th street in new york city. it manufactured "sweetheart" toilet soap and other related products. the corporation was acquired by the purex (laundry detergent) corporation on july 31, 1956. limited number of heads available. no two are alike. priced individually. measures 11 1/2 x 4 x 5 1/2 inches.
