very unique vintage american american atomic age outdoor "sputnik" ball top finial salvaged from an old roadside motel sign. designed and fabricated by the national sign mfg. co., chicago, il. fabrication date unknown. the carefully machined sphere contains a multitude of arms fabricated at various lengths. the freestanding ball sign has been retrofitted with specialized lighting. the original bulbguards were lost long ago. the oversized space age sign ornament contains a mostly uniform black enameled finish. the tubular steel post contains a plate with pre-drilled holes for anchoring on any and all flat surfaces. measures approximately 68 inches tall and 38 inches in diameter.
