unusual c. 1920's research laboratory device or implement salvaged from the university of chicago. the stamped brass identification tag reads " institute of radiobiology & biophysics, university of chicago." the exact use or purpose is not known. the six-sided or hexagonal device is comprised of varnished maple wood with an extremely heavy weighted cast iron pedestal base. designed to rotate freely. each side contains protruding wood pegs (used to hold glassware?) with blunted ends. the top cap is removable, exposing a hollow cavity. surface wear consistent with age.
