johnson chair co., milwaukee, wi.
odd and unusual c. 1940's american industrial custom-built factory office "armchair" salvaged from an old chicago boilerworks factory. the rather clumsy looking features a solid white oak slat back johnson chair with spacious saddle seat. the arms are comprised of bent tubular galvanized steel conduit pipe secured with brackets on each side. two additional pipes with pinched ends provide added reinforcement between the seat and backrest. the chair is supported by a three-legged cast iron base containing large hardened black rubber caster wheels. the unique industrial chair has been refinished and treated with a cleat coat lacquer. awkward yet ingeniously constructed, the chair is structurally sound and rather comfortable to some degree.
