very unique and unusual c. 1940's american hand-crafted folk art "think" wall-mount sign salvaged from an office building in california. the bold lettering is carved within a bowtie-shaped bas-relief configuration with two opposed screw holes used for mounting purposes. the original black and white paint finish is mostly intact, with surface wear an light crazing evident. the edges contain traces of both green and blue wall paint. the solid wood block is comprised of walnut wood. artist unidentified. "think" is a motto coined by thomas j. watson while managing the sales and advertising departments at the national cash register company, saying "thought has been the father of every advance since time began. 'i didn't think' has cost the world millions of dollars." in 1914 he brought the motto with him to computing tabulating recording company (ctr), which later became ibm. measures 15 x 5 1/2 x 1 inches.
