largely intact original antique american victorian era ornamental cast iron interior residential fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by william h. jackson & co., new york city, ny. the coal or wood-burning fireplace fire-front contains a mostly uniform black enameled finish. the center "screen" is heavily perforated with detailed leafage and scrollwork. the upper corners are missing sections - likely broken off from mishandling. several other cast iron summer covers available for wood and coal burning fireplaces. likely manufactured around 1860-70. measures approximately 19 x 27 1/2 inches.
