mid-19th century original arch top american antique ornamental cast iron interior residential parlor room fireplace summer cover designed and fabricated by the w & n jackson & sons co., new york city, ny. the arch top perforated iron insert contains a mostly black enameled finish over iron. the intricately designed filigree is evident throughout. the summer cover does contain a missing section along the right side. salvaged from a chicago italianate style chicago rowhouse. w. n. jackson & co., began in 1827 as gratemakers, at 238 front st. in new york city, ny. after further expansion with additional locations, the company changed its name to w. & n. jackson & sons in 1852-3. measures approximately 19 x 25 inches.
