well-maintained 19th century antique american interior residential octagonal-shaped solid walnut wood freestanding newel post salvaged from a post-fire chicago commercial building built in 1873. the freestanding solid walnut wood post was likely fabricated by or for palmer, fuller, & co., chicago, ills. the newel post consists of several finely turned components held together with an iron rod running vertically down the center. the interior staircase post newel remains in great overall condition. two matching newel posts were removed from the building undergoing extensive remodeling.
