largely intact original and unrestored single-sided wall mount eagle lock company wood screw advertising product display board salvaged from an old chicago hardware store that closed its doors in recent years. the brightly colored orange enameled wood display board contains a variety of wood screws organized in subsections, based on size and/or finish. the larger screws found towards the bottom were designed for use as machine screws, stove bolts and the like. each black enameled wood plaque affixed to the flat board contains both screws and a hand-painted number that likely corresponded to a brochure or catalog reference number when ordering. the circular-shaped single-sided metal plaque bearing the manufacturer's name and logo remains in great condition. discoloration from water damage, along with the bottom-most section removed (i.e., lost) was caused by improper storage. nonetheless, the eagle screw display boards remains in decent shape as a form of advertising for the eagle lock company. the two circular steel hangers are tightly afffixed to the backside of the board. the eagle lock company (established 1833), was at one time the largest trunk and cabinet lock maker in the world. it was based in terryville, ct. eagle lock was at the forefront of padlock security in its time. the main company was in terryville, but they had opened another factory in ohio. the factory had a manufacturing line of over 2000 different kinds of locks, a sales room was once operated on chambers street in new york city. the lock company finally went out of business in 1975, due to a strike from the remaining employees, which were later honored for over 65 years of laboring work during the 175th annual birthday in terryville.
