early chicago factory
finely crafted late 19th century american industrial factory foreman's task desk or workstation salvaged from an old chicago vault-making assembly plant. the freestanding desk is finished on all sides. comprised largely of solid birch or possibly mahogany wood, with a nicely aged surface patina (left untouched). the spacious slanted front tabletop contains a shallow well for pens or pencils. the right side of the cabinet contains a diminutive pull-out drawer with original nickel-plated cast brass drawer pull. the long and narrow hinged cabinet door with recessed panel conceals a highly compartmentalized interior. a threaded end tubular steel rod or pipe with opposing flanges provides added support in addition to acting as a footrest. the original varnished finish remains largely intact. the majority of surface wear is found along the tabletop. remains structural sound and sturdy. possibly custom-built, but likely fabricated by a commercial cabinet making and/or store fixture company. measures 35 1/2 x 27 x 41 1/2 inches.
