unique and hard to find all original and intact c 1930's or possibly 1940's antique american industrial single exterior "symmetric" prism glass city street pendant type light fixture designed and fabricated by the holophane company, newark, oh. the distinctive fixture retains the original thick clear glass protective dome encapsulating the prism glass dome or bowl-shaped refractor. the original reinforced cast aluminum shade fitter has been refinished and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the ight control of the prismatic glass refractor is designed for for large, open areas, with circular distribution. the threaded steel pipe fittings and hanger were found with the fixture, although the pendant was likely affixed to a street lamp pipe bracket. the hallmark of holophane luminaires, or lighting fixtures, is the borosilicate glass reflector/refractor. the glass prisms provide a combination of uplight and downlight to illuminate any environment evenly without creating dark spots or glare. this ribbed glass shade/reflector, called "holophane" or "holophane style/type" is iconic in "vintage" style lighting.only one fixture available. diameter measures 12 inches, total fixture height measures 25 1/2 inches.
