elegant c. 1920's american interior chicago athletic association annex building 8-arm chandelier designed and fabricated by the beardslee mfg. co., chicago, il. the original and largely intact ceiling fixture is comprised of brass with a silver-plated finish. the neoclassical style fixture contains eight bent tubular arms with candlesticks and spearhead-shaped crystals. the painted steel candle sleeves (used to conceal the keyless sockets) are original to the fixture. original canopy or ceiling cap. the hubbell sockets are in good original condition. nicely aged surface patina. the ceiling fixture was salvaged from an upper floor room located within the chicago athletic association annex building. the 20-story prairie style chicago athletic association annex (also known as the chicago athletic club addition or "madison building") was designed by the notable chicago-based architectural firm of martin, garden & schmidt. the madison street landmarked high-rise was added to the existing 11-story neo-venetian style chicago club association building constructed in 1893 by architect henry ives cobb. the towering "gardenesque" style red brick and ornamented limestone annex was completed in 1907, with an additional eight floors added in 1925. together the two buildings form an l-shape wrapping around willoughby tower. the annex contained the famous "cherry circle" bar room, lodging, the crystal room, offices and a presidential suite on the 18th floor. measures approximately 27 x 29 inches.
