single early 20th century dark cobalt blue cold-rolled steel single-piece "maxolite" american industrial pendant light reflector or shade designed and fabricated by or for the central electric company, chicago, il. the heavy gauge steel shade with a "shallow bowl" profile retains the original highly desirable deep cobalt blue porcelain or vitreous enameled finish. the white reflective underside remains in good condition, considering age. the "maxolite" shades or reflectors were distributed through the central electric company to factories across the country throughout the first half of the 20th century. the factory office pendant light features an unusual yellow brass sleeve and spun canopy as opposed to the more commonly found steel pipe with cast iron ball socket swivel joint canopy. great overall condition. the brass stem and canopy were refinished long ago and have since developed a warmer or mellow brass patina. only one available. measures 23 inches high x 14 1/4 inches in diameter.
