original and intact 19th century american antique ornamental cast iron residential fireplace summer cover likely designed and fabricated by the w.l. sharp & son company, steubenville, oh. the pierced iron summer cover retains the original "japanned" or baked black enameled finish. the centrally located grille contains a raised border with intricate filigree and protruding rosette. salvaged from a chicago italianate style residence built in the late 1870's. measures 20 x 28 3/4 inches.
