early 20th century original american industrial red painted pine wood folding a-frame sign maker's ladder possibly fabricated by the dayton safety ladder company, dayton, oh. the weathered and worn portable wood ladder was salvaged from an old chicago area sign shop. the wrought steel and cast iron fittings are intact and in good shape. the rungs or steps are reinforced by angled steel brackets and/or solid steel rods. the segmented wood platform is strong and sturdy. measures approximately 39 x 22 x 68 1/2 inches.
