c. 1860's antique early american painted pine wood steamer trunk or chest. the furniture fabricator or maker is not known. the humpback storage chest contains a mostly uniform mustard yellow paint finish with an allover crazed and discolored finish. the trunk contains two opposed wrought iron drop handles mounted securely against each side. the wrought metal straps wrapping around the trunk provide added support and stability. the front contains a rectangular-shaped keyhole escutcheon and lockable hasp (the latter was likely added at a later point in time. the corners contain a series of butterfly or dovetail key joints. measures 34 x 16 1/2 x 17 inches.
