original early 20th century antique american solid clear glass advertising paperweight design and fabricated by the libbey glass company, toledo, oh. the completely intact old office desk weighted glass paperweight was made for coal and coke retailers f.g. hardtwell co., chicago, il. fed g. hartwell established the hartwell company around 1884 with offices located in the fisher building (office no. 170) and a coal yard or "old stand" twelfth street. the enameled back remains in great condition with little wear evident.
