reinforced american industrial heavy gauge steel freestanding "otsteel" joliet penitentiary workshop stool designed and fabricated by the angle steel stool company, plainwell, mi. the four-legged stool retains the original solid golden oak wood circular-shaped seat with a slightly sunken center. the riveted joint stretchers and/or cross-bracing provide added support and rigidity. the workshop stool has been brushed down to bare metal and sealed with a clear coat lacquer. the distinctive inward-turned ball feel provide added stability. the adjustable extensions contains a plurality of closely-spaced pre-drilled holes for achieving desired height. a nearly identical stool was salvaged from the same workshop within the prison. only one of the stool salvaged contains the inmate's name and identification number. base measures 15 inches. seat measures 14 inches. seat height at 27 1/2 inches measures.
