unique c. 1930's single-sided depression era antique american printing press factory wall mount "elevator pit" danger or cautionary sign. the hand-painted sign consists largely of galvanized steel with a nicely worn and weathered paint finish. an elevator pit is the portion of an elevator shaft or hoistway extending below the level of the bottom landing saddle to provide for bottom overtravel and clearance, and for elevator parts that require space below the bottom limit of car travel. the single-sided sign measures 28 x 24 inches.
