unusual vintage american industrial freestanding machine shop octagonal pedestal base found in an old chicago steam gauge factory. the c. 1930's custom-built machine stand contains a slightly tapered, octagonal-shaped column with two welded joint steel plates attached on each end. a centrally located hole runs the length of the base. the factory machine shop stand is comprised of heavy gauge steel with a brushed metal finish. a clear coat lacquer was applied to prevent the accumulation of rust. measures 12 x 12 x 36 1/2 inches.
