original and intact c. 1950's vintage american interior illuminated "this car up" elevator indicator panel or sign salvaged from 19th south lasalle street during renovations in the 1980's. the wall-mount sign was likely added to the historic building in the 1950's. the exact fabricator is not known. the rectangular-shaped panel is comprised of stainless steel with deeply embossed molded plastic lettering (illuminated from the backside). 19 south lasalle street, formerly known as the central ymca (association building), was constructed in 1893 and designed by the architecture firm jenney & mundie. the structure, designed by william lebaron jenney and william bryce mundie as jenney & mundie, was eventually renamed for its address, 19 south lasalle street. 19 south lasalle street has been described as one of jenney's most "uncompromising" facades due to its rectangularity which is only interrupted by horizontal banding at the 11th and 12th stories. although, the horizontal courses and the building's shifting design are typical of jenney's work around this time period. measures 24 x 5 x 3 1/2 inches.
